The stock company “Koleje Małopolskie” was established on the basis of Resolution № XLIV / 705/13 of The Lesser Poland Regional Assembly of December 2, 2013 on the establishment of a single-member company of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship and in accordance with Resolution № 1518/13 of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship Board of December 10, 2013.
2014
In order to carry out the entrusted tasks, on 23 June 2014, the Company obtained a license for rail passenger transport № WPO/236/2014, thus becoming a licensed carrier.
2014
On 14 December 2014 Koleje Małopolskie started a regular service on the Kraków Główny – Wieliczka Rynek – Kopalnia line. Six modern Acatus Plus trains, which were purchased by the Lesser Poland Voivodeship for the needs of SKA, have entered the tracks.
2015
On 28 September 2015 Koleje Małopolskie launched a connection on Wieliczka Rynek – Mine - Kraków Główny - Kraków Airport route.
2015
On 13 December 2015 it started a regular service of Kraków Główny - Miechów - Sędziszów line. On that day, Koleje Małopolskie received Pesa Acatus II vehicles.
2016
In July 2016 Koleje Małopolskie became involved in the organization of the World Youth Day in Krakow. Pilgrims and volunteers could travel free of charge on KMŁ trains as part of the pilgrim package. During the week of WYD in Krakow, the local government carrier handled 332,000 passengers (almost 260% more than during an ordinary week). 175 trains operated every day on the routes served by Koleje Małopolskie.
2016
On 28 November 2016 the official presentation of the first 6 new NEWAG Impuls vehicles ordered by the Lesser Poland Voivodeship for Koleje Małopolskie took place at Nowy Sącz station.
2016
On 11 December 2016 Koleje Małopolskie started a regular service of the third line of the Fast Agglomeration Railway from Kraków Główny to Tarnów, as well as the connection to Nowy Sącz and Krynica-Zdrój.
2017
On 10 August 2017 Koleje Małopolskie carried its 10-millionth passenger. In the first three months of 2017, the number of people using the services of Koleje Małopolskie exceeded 2.8 million. This is 42% more than in the same period of 2016.
2017
On 2 October 2017 Koleje Małopolskie inaugurated weekend connections Kraków Główny - Jasło.
2019
On 27 March 2019 Koleje Małopolskie carried its 20-millionth passenger.
2021
On 17 August 2021 new Pesa Elf 2 vehicles were received. The vehicles have 200 seats, and are additionally equipped, among others, with air conditioning, WiFi, a place for bicycles and facilities for people with disabilities (a toilet for disabled persons, an elevator, a ramp and an induction loop for people with hearing impairment) and families with children (a changing table for babies, step free access between carriages).
2021
On 29 September 2021 new vehicles of the Newag Impuls 2 type were received. Impuls 2 vehicles are four-carriage trains that can be used by 473 people seated and standing. The maximum speed of both types of vehicles is 160 km/h. A characteristic feature of all new vehicles is the layout of the metro-type passenger space in the middle sections.

On 12 December 2021 after nearly 4 years of break, Koleje Małopolskie resumed the train service to Skawina. As many as 38 new courses were launched.
2023
On 16 January 2023 modern railway siding of Koleje Małopolskie started operations.

On 21 January 2023 7 new hybrid buses were received. Iveco Crossway 12 LE Line Hybrid buses are equipped with 45 seats + 2 tiltable seats for passengers, high ergonomically shaped seats, space for a wheelchair or a child's stroller, additional lighting in the door area, making it easier to get on and off at unlit stops, a visual and voice passenger information and monitoring system, door arrangement: 1-2-0 and USB chargers for passengers. This project is financed under the Regional Operational Program of the Małopolska Region for 2014-2020 and as part of the EU's response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
2023
From December 10, 2023, Koleje Małopolskie runs to Oświęcim also via Skawina.
2024
On March 1, 2024, the ceremonial opening of the Koleje Małopolskie Customer Service Center (COK) took place at the Kraków Główny PKP Railway Station. COK is a comprehensive place where travelers will get full knowledge about their planned trips.
